Titans of power metal “Dragonforce” most memorable for their classic tracks “Through The Fire And Flames” and “Fury Of The Storm” still going strong after 20 years as they release their eighth full length “Extreme Power Metal” on 27/09/3019 via “Metal Blade Records”.
Extreme Power Metal was also recorded, in part, on guitarist Herman Li’s livestream channel on Twitch (www.twitch.tv/hermanli) with participation from the fans. For a first preview of the album, a video for the new single, “Highway to Oblivion”, can be viewed at: https://youtu.be/Rn5CsAs798I
Opening the album “ Highway To Oblivion” which also appears as a playable level on VR game “AUDICA” which adds a interesting element. The track itself is undoubtedly 80’s themed incase the artwork wasn’t enough upon the intro of the track could easily pass as movie soundtrack that eventually develops a dose of the classic “Dragonforce” grind. Its cheesy upbeat and a throwback.
Stand out tracks include “Razorblade Meltdown” “Strangers” and the hilarious rendition of “My Heart Will Go On”.
A real throwback for myself as I haven’t heard any “Dragonforce” material in over a decade. I must admit it may be an album for the die hard power metal followers. Although fun and at times a nostalgic record I am not sure I personally feel won over by the album.
