Artist- INFECTED RAIN + LACUNA COIL
Venue- GLASGOW GARAGE NOV 13TH 2019
By Kenny Lenehan
I arrive at the Garage Glasgow just before “Infected Rain’s” set to the venue being around a quarter full with many still arriving. At 18-25pm the lights dim as infected rains’ intro tape rolls “Eugene Voulta” appears behind the kit with Bassist “ Vladimir Babici” and Guitarist “Vidick Ozhog” taking to the stage in tandem. They blister their way into the intense track “Mold” with vocalist “Lena Siccorhands” appearing on vocal cue underneath black hood. The sound, attack and energy was full on with impressive spotlighting. “What’s up Glasgow? We are Infected Rain…This is our first time in beautiful Scotland!” ditching black hoodie to emerge in stage outfit. Next up is “Passerby” which is simply incredible live intense energy that fills the venue Along with impressive lightshow. Audience still awkward and venue is still filling but Infected Rain have the energy and performance that would tear down a stadium. Lights dim with red spot light on drummer and full band facing away from audience. “Orphan Soul” is instantly met with a tame reaction from audience yet alot of phones and cameras recording this track. Lighting during “Orphan Soul” was interesting as it resembled the flag of Moldova (Red, Blue And Yellow). Audience still very tame and slowly warming up despite the fantastic and full on performance from Infected Rain.
“Thank you so much are you having fun my friends? I know its early but who says its too early for metal??” I would like to thank this guy….” Introduces Guitarist of Lacuna Coil filling in on UK tour for “Sergey Babich” “Show us what you got!” Lena Scissorhands addresses the still slow and tame audience. They burst into the brutal “Lure” which is personal favourite of mine so close to the recording on “Endorphin”. Audience getting more into the groove and place filling up more reactions and better vibe picking up. More of a reaction with horns and head banging towards front.
“HI?? I hate this part of the show…ah fuck…our last song we have to go…” Lena stress’s to audience before tearing into “Earth Mantra”. A great way to end the set a full on track that is brutal yet tasteful. After which the crowd applause for at least 30 seconds giving Infected Rain the respect the deserve.
“Thank you so much you guys are so beautiful….. Lets take a picture together this our fist time together! We will remember this for ever …” Lena finishes the set with stage shot with audience.
I personally feel Infected Rain deserve higher billing it would be great to see them on a headline UK tour or Festival appearances. They have the energy performance and edge to carry off any show. Being their first time in the UK I hope to catch them again soon. I got to chat with Lena in a interview for Silence Is The Enemy which we cover these subjects. It was a pleasure to interview Lena after the show.
I sadly didn’t catch much of “Eluveitie’s” set as Interview with Lena Scissorhands took place during this time.
After interviewing “Lena Scossorhands” of Infected Rain re entering the main stage area to a packed and stifling hot audience. I take to the balcony for a an different perspective. The Atmosphere is tense and the capacity crowd mingle and by now well warmed up awaiting Lacuna Coil to take to the stage.
Eventually house lights dim to a deep red lit stage and Lacuna Coil’s intro tape begins with drummer “ Richard Meiz” appearing to an instant greeting from the audience. Both Bassist “ Marco Coti Zelati” and Guitarist “ Diego Cavallotti” casually joining the stage in tandem. Cutting into “Blood, Tears, Dust” finally Vocalists “Cristina Scabbia” and “ Andrea Ferro” join to complete the line up.
Crowd still not full of action a very mixed and varied audience to be fair not what I was expecting not many aging goths and no teenagers to be seen although show was a 14+.
An incredible entrance and first track by Lacuna Coil yet still no signs of metal audience.
Christina Scabbia “ Glasgow how do we feel out there?? Hey..Hey…Hey!” encouraging the audience which did get an instant reaction. Next up was “Trip The Darkness” which was spot on form. Lacuna Coil yet audience still very tame which to me felt odd.
Andrea Ferro address the capacity audience “SCOTLAND! BEUATIFUL. GLASGOW ITS COLD OUT HOPEFULLY YOU HEAT US UP……GLASGOW ARE YOU READY TO PARTY….GLASGOW ARE YOU READY TO PARTY???!? “ Before entering the classic “Our Truth” which was truly mesmerizing to witness live as it was my first time catching Lacuna Coil live. Christina Scabbia’s voice is just incredible and so close to the original release. I must admit they may not be as energetic as they were in the past but the musicianship image and performance is A1. Half way through “Glasgow let me introduce you to Mr Richard Meiz” where he performed a mini drum solo which led back into the main chorus.
Thank you so much…you guys are so good to us….you know every concert is like a group therapy” Christina Scabbia announces to the now firmly alive and awake audience.
As the set progress’s towards the end of the show the cult classic cover of “Enjoy The Silence” brings the place down with capacity audience finally chanting the famous “Here we here we fucking go” and reacting fully and then stomping and chanting during the encore.
Lacuna Coil reappear after encore wearing Santa hats and deliver the track “Naughty Christmas” which to me was a complete surprise and bit of fun. Before blazing the place down with the classic “Heavens A Lie” which is sheer nostalgic and had the place turned upside down. Andrea Ferro announces the last song “ thank you Scotland your hot!!! Its the part I like the least… this is our song” …”Nothing Stands In Our Way” at which point the crowd starts to empty rather promptly.
A great show and of coarse it was a privilege to Interview Lena Scissorhands of Infected Rain. I must admit that I feel as if Infected Rain stole the show with their integrity energy and fresh sound. Although it did seem odd to me that the audience where very tame all the way through each act you find this at times when its an early show. I highly recommend you catch a date on the tour as there is something for everyone.
