RELEASE DATE: 19 APRIL 2019
BY KENNY LENEHAN

Fractal Universe released their hotly anticipated album ‘Rhizomes of Insanity’ on 19 April 2019 via Metal Blade Records. The French Progressive Death Metal four piece formed in 2014 and have grown considerably in a few short years having toured extensively in support of 2015’s E.P ‘Boundaries Of Reality’. Their first full-length, ‘Engram of Decline’ was released in April 2017 via Kolony Records and Fractal Universe received even more exposure in international stage before touring throughout Europe and appearing at various festivals including Hellfest Open Air, amongst others. Check out my thoughts below.
First up is ‘Oneiric Realisations’ which instantly provides a taste of what’s to come before leading you into a more interesting passage that is uncountably a throwback to the like Tool.
‘Flashes of Potentiallies’ opens with an interesting bass line, taking an almost psychedelic approach which inevitably proceeds into the bands softer side of progressive metal.
‘Parabola Of Silence’ again has a mellow dark and progressive feel. I can’t help but wonder if is this a nod to Tool with the title of the track? A solid track that leaves me looking for more.
My personal favourites include ‘Fundamental Dividing Principle’, ‘Rising Oblivion’ and ‘Parabola Of Silence’

Definitely a versatile sound that is fresh and interesting in comparison to others out there.
